  1. Easter — a while back

    March 23, 2008 by MyEye

There really were schools back when I was growing up.  I went to Catholic ones because my mother believed I might need a little extra discipline.  (Do you think?)  I’ll actually always be grateful for the reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic basics — we even diagrammed sentences back then.  There are some other things I learned that are still hang-ups.  I won’t share all the trouble I caused in our little schools!  BUT one of the really cool things we did was to cover our heads when we went to church.  The best head-covering time was Easter when my mom would take us three girls shopping for hats — wonderful big brimmed woven hats with flowers around the crown or with colors on the brim to match our dresses.  My mom has been gone since the mid- 60′s (she died when she was only 39).  But thinking about wearing a hat makes me think of her, and that makes me smile.

I don’t celebrate Easter any differently than I celebrate every day during which the sun shines or my dogs wag or I see my granddaughter or a friend calls.  I’ve changed my focus since the early 60′s, but this morning the sun is shining, my granddaughter wished me a happy day, and the dogs are waiting while I type this.

So, to all my friends I say, “Have a beautiful day.”

  2. Well, shucks!

Last night our Lady Lobos made quite a run at moving to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  They played West Virginia to a 60 to 61 finish in front of a crowd of more than 9,000.  So, we’re done until next November.  That gives me a couple more nights a weeks to do dog things, answer mail, or stay late at the office.  I’d rather attend a few more games.

  3. Time to say goodbye

    March 21, 2008 by MyEye

Nike left us on Wednesday.  In 1991 my elder son began dating the woman who would become his wife.  The first Christmas they spent together included the gift of a tiny Dalmatian puppy that Debi, a runner, named Nike.  On Christmas Eve that year the puppy escaped from the dog-proofed yard (dog-proofed for Brautigan the German Shepherd — not for a tiny puppy).  We spent the Christmas holiday putting up posters, calling the radio stations, going door to door in the neighborhood.  A day after Christmas, Debi knocked on a door and when the person opened it, a little dalmatian puppy was there.  The one blue eye/one brown eye made identification pretty easy.

Debi gathered up the puppy and took her home.  From that day until this past Wednesday, Nike was their running companion, office dog, house guardian, and all-around special girl.  She had slowed down considerably during the past year, was finding it more difficult to get up, having some bladder problems, but still waited every day for Marc and Debi to come home so she could greet them.

Tuesday she had a seizure from which she did not recover.  On Wednesday morning, with a lingering head pat and a gentle tummy rub, she was on her way to the Rainbow Bridge.  She went with the dignity and love she had exhibited from the time she was born.  Nike will always be at my son and daughter-in-law’s home, always be one of my favorite granddogs.  Goodbye Nike, girl.

  4. Getting a Stacking Box

    March 20, 2008 by MyEye

Apparently Chase modeling the stacking box made it very desirable.  I’ve been flooded with requests for contact information.  John says I may put this on the blog.  His web site is www.GrayfootAgility.com  There is a contact link on his site or use info@grayfootagility.com  The box teaches muscle memory for conformation and is great for proofing the stand-stay for obedience.  Nope, I don’t have stock — just love a useful, well-made product.

  5. Shampoo-In Fat Remover

    March 20, 2008 by MyEye

It’s looking a lot like summer — 70 degrees and sunny skies.  That means it’s time to dig out the sleeveless tops.  They look okay under a blazer or a big shirt with a skirt or slacks.  Unfortunately they don’t look okay if the extra me isn’t covered up.  I hate dieting, I hate exercise.  I hate regimented anything.  I know better — I just hate it.  So, I’m cruising the body wash section of Target.  I think it’s time for one of the big cosmetic companies (Revlon, Avon, L’Oreal) to market a shampoo-in fat remover (“SIFR”).  Stand in the shower, lather up all over with SIFR, wait an hour and wash away the extra pounds.  Why is this product not being promoted, is it still in R & D?  No help from Google . . .
