  1. Thunk . . . Thunk-Thunk . . . Thunk

    August 28, 2009 by myeye

That sound was really close, but the dogs were just sitting by the French doors completely unconcerned.   Finally, I heard a voice say, “Sheesh!”  Ah hah!  It was my neighbor, owner of the abundant apple tree, picking up the crop on his side of the fence.  The dogs know all the people who live in the adjoining homes so do not bark when they are out in the yard.  Since the fence around the yard is 6′ high, I cannot see whether Melvin has more apples to clean up than do I.  Since I have only one branch overhanging the patio and dumping a bushel a day, I suspect his clean-up is a full time job.  I can’t say anything unpleasant about the fruit because my dogs have enjoyed this year’s crop immensely.

  2. Do Dogs Get Complexes?

    August 27, 2009 by myeye

Carolyn has just posted some recent (like last night this morning) photos of Phoebe — she called her Phatt Phoebee.  The girl is a little chunky, but . . .

So, Phebes will be phlying to Albuquerque Saturday night and I’ll phetch her at our local airport.  I’ll be taking up the belly-rubbing, mantra-chanting chore.  “. . . easy whelp . . . healthy puppies . . . girls please . . .”

The Chebes are closer to reality.

  3. Tuesday’s Trash Day

    August 26, 2009 by myeye

We had a funny spring.  There was a one night freeze and it got all my peach blossoms — so I had no fruit this summer.  However, it was, apparently, a great spring for apples.  My neighbor to the north has an apple tree in his yard.  One branch hangs over my fence.  It provides shade and is a windbreak.  It also provides the dogs with an ample apple supply.

Our trash pickup is on Tuesdays.  Yesterday morning, I took a large trash bag outside and hauled more than 30 pounds of fruit to the front.  That’s about the weekly average for five or six weeks during the later summer.  It doesn’t include the enormous number of apples that Inca eats and that Chase juggles or uses for bowling balls.  So, when I left for work, the apples were cleared out of the back yard.  When I came home last night, this is what I saw — in just one planter.

  4. Sox In Box

    Sox in Box

Today when I went to the Post Office to pick up my mail, there was a manilla envelope from C-Myste. I took my prize out to the car (where Chase was patiently sitting on the front seat). I began to open the envelope and Chase climbed in my lap. His nose was against the envelope. As I lifted the flap, he thrust his nose into the envelope — and I pulled it away. Wow! Look! New Mexico-colored socks, hand made in Orygun. Chase sez, “it smells like home.”

Thank you, Carolyn. Since we haven’t made it to 70 degrees yesterday or today, these will come in handy right now. Go away, Chase. Mine!

  5. Adrienne and the Furry Ones

Saturday was one of Adrienne’s days with Grandma (and Chase and Inca).  They love her because she’s at licking height a lot of the time and because she gives great tummy rubs.
