  1. The Chunky Monkeys

    October 29, 2010 by myeye

Leidy must offer super-milk.  Today was a milestone for Reba as she moved up the scale to 13.5 oz — more than double her birth weight of 6.5 oz.  Her siblings continue to move toward butterball status with Smooch at 1 lb., 4.5 oz., Udi at 1 lb, 3.9 oz., and Victor at 1 lb., 4 oz.  They are now happy to cuddle up against my neck — no longer concerned that they have been lifted into the air and are moving away from the whelping box.  I can’t wait for eyes to begin opening so they can see what’s around them — but mostly so I can see those pretty eyes.  I love puppies!

In unrelated news, I made my hotel reservations for the Nationals.  There was so much chatter about it on the various lists that I panicked and decided I’d better get rooms.  At this point, I plan to fly (round trip is about $300 on Southwest), rent a car, drive to the herding site to watch Susan and Chase, and stay there until Monday when we’ll drive back into Houston and check into the host hotel.  I will take Chase from Sunday afternoon  until I return him to Susan on Saturday after Best of Breed competition.  I’ve definitely missed my happy boy.

  2. Puppy Piles

    October 28, 2010 by myeye

Right after I change the pads in the whelping box, I try to take a photo.  Under the pads is a PetSafe warming disk.  It maintains a constant temperature that is warm but not hot, and has a chew safe cord (Holmes and Watson tested it).  By the time the puppies are two days old, their little bodies have honed in on the disk and that is where the puppy pile forms.  If Leidy is stretched out, everyone heads for the lunch bar, but as soon as she moves they all gravitate back to the disk.

Puppy Pile 10-28Oct. 28th – The pile is getting bigger: Left to right – Reba, Victor, Smooch, Udi

Weight gain is good.  On this (the ninth day), Reba has gone from (first number is birth weight) 6.5 oz. to 11.9, Smooch has gained from 9.9 oz to 1 lb, 2.7 oz., Udi from 8.6 oz. to 1 lb., 2.3 oz., and Victor from 10 oz to 1 lb., 2.1 oz.  The best part is that they no long scream for mom when I pick them up.  They now cuddle up against my neck.  Ooooh!  I love puppies!  I am hoping that Sunday perhaps we will see glimmers of eyes so they can recognize me before I pick them up and cuddle them.

Leidy is eating like a stevedore.  She looks great with shiny coat and eyes.  She feels free to leave the puppies more to go outside or to lie on her cot and watch them sleep.

In other news (important to me).  We closed the sale of the house yesterday, BUT (this comes as no surprise), Wells Fargo failed to wire my money to the Title Company.  It would be nice to be paid for the house.  Certainly they will wire it this morning:/

  3. Puppy Update

    October 27, 2010 by myeye

The three bigger puppies continue to be bigger — Smooch, Victor and Udi are well over a pound.  Reba is gaining regularly and is over 11 oz.  She had a little further to go than did her siblings.  They are eight days old today.  It’s difficult to imagine that a week ago I was waiting for any one of them to make an appearance.  They are vocal — with expressed opinions on everything from when Leidy moves within the whelping box to when I put them in the warming box so I can change their bedding.  Leidy is eating well and seems to have plenty of milk for the fearsome foursome.  They are learning that when I pick them up they can cuddle — it’s not nearly as good as mom (I think it’s my lack of fur), but it’s still comfortable.

    I LOVE puppies.

  4. A Break In Our Regularly Scheduled Programming

    October 26, 2010 by myeye

As you know, I sold my town home immediately after I bought the Los Lunas house.  We were to close the sale on October 15th, but it still hasn’t closed.  Tonight I learned the loan documents are on their way to the title company, so I feel it’s safe to BLAST the bank that was giving the buyer her mortgage loan.  The buyer banks at Wells Fargo and has a strong relationship with the people in the banking end.  When she decided to buy the house, she asked her banking friends to refer her to someone on the mortgage side.  They made a call and handed her off to a Mortgage Loan Officer.  We faxed them the purchase agreement and the buyer faxed them EVERYTHING about her life since she was born.  Three weeks into the process, the underwriting department told the buyer that it is unreasonable to expect to close in 30 days — that it takes 45 to 60 days.  Meanwhile, I have sunk a bunch of money into the house so that the appraisal would be strong.

It is now 16 days past the closing date and the documents are just being transferred.  I have been paying interest on the townhouse this entire time, not to mention the money spent to make the house appealing to the appraiser.  My issue with WELLS FARGO is not that they are incapable of processing a mortgage application within 30 days (even for someone with top drawer credit), but that they never said, up front, that they could not do it.  They waited until we were so far along in the process that it would be impractical to seek another lender.  I find that offensive.  It is a form of bait and switch.  I’d like to find a legal basis for suing them (and I really dislike litigation).

So — do not do business with Wells Fargo.  I suspect ultimately you will be very sorry.  I cannot tell you how sorry I am that I was part of this transaction with this organization.

There, I feel a lot better.

Now, back to puppies, and herding, and training.

  5. On the Seventh Day . . .

    October 26, 2010 by myeye

. . . only the puppies rested.  It’s difficult for one person to get good photos of wriggly little puppies, but here is my best effort.  Adrienne will be here again this weekend and we will try to get some better photos.
