Tonight’s report from Susan.

“Well, I did finally get to work Chase tonight on ducks. I didn’t think I would be able to, but I got done putting up the first two panels of fence before dark. Chase did fine working the ducks. I got down on one knee several times to praise him and he really got off on that. He was able to put the ducks away – and actually helped.  That got him more praise.”

Yep!  I’m going to have to get him some ducks of his own.  Inca also likes to herd, so it’s probably a great investment.  When we were kids, my grandmother used to buy us (we were seven strong) a pass to the nearby swimming pool.  That was everyone’s birthday present for the year.  Ducks may be the group gift at the new house.

Next week the Daily Corgi will have a Cardigan Carnival — all week.  Send your favorite Cardi photos to Laurie (the inventor and editor of this great blog) at thedailycorgi@gmail.com.  The blog has been overrun with Pems and it’s time to make a change!  Even if your dogs have already been featured as the “Corgi of the Day”, Laurie hopes to see their smiling faces again.

I found a wonderful price on Photoshop Elements 8 (I had version 6). So, I bought it (I heart ebay).  I thought I would treat myself tonight to a few minutes with the new program.  You may remember the bronze iris that fascinated our Holmes-puppy in May.  If one applies the Filters ->Artistic ->Sponge to the photo, this is what you get.  Isn’t it cool?

There will be a place to use this — maybe some homemade note cards?

Carolyn (and Shelley) have posted an “Analyze your Writing” feature.  So I plugged in a piece from my blog.  That’s it — I quit being a lawyer right now so I can write best sellers full time.

Our Paw It Forward boxes are going to the Post Office today.  Watch for treats in Minnesota: Grace, Siren, Peace and Magic, and in Tennessee: Scout and Spencer.  The baddogs did not want these boxes to leave our house!

Sorry — they aren’t going PRIORITY!

The baddogs received a package from Julie and her gooddogs as part of Paws It Forward.  We love it — thank you so much!  Now it’s our turn to pass it on.  The first two commentors to this post will receive a special box from the baddogs containing items the baddogs really want to keep for themselves.  The winners will then get to Paws it Forward to two more lucky bloggers,

Tennessee — at the southern end of the Appalachian Trail . . .  There are fields of wild flowers and misty hills.  Chase has the wonderful opportunity to travel to Tennessee where he will be in residence with Cheryl K at Bluefox Cardigans.  He will spend many of his days learning to organize the sheep with Susan S who is one of the premier Cardigan herding trainers in the country.  While Chase is on sabbatical, he will dally with southern belles, attend a few dog shows . . .

Will I miss my funny boy?  You bet your boots!  . . . but this is his chance to herd — and he loves the sheep.  We are aiming for a September trip, hoping to find him a ride from either the Amarillo or the Lubbock shows.  By then Ms. Leidy will have been bred, Holmes will be well into his Beginning Novice class, Chase should have completed at least his RA, and the weather will have cooled enough that both the trip and herding should be comfortable.

I will see Chase at the Houston CWCCA National Specialty where he will be entered in Herding and Best of Breed.

I must find him a “Tennessee” sticker for his ruck-sack.

My Firefox web browser program was just updated to the latest version, and presented me with an add-on called “Persona Plus“.  The personas are skins that surround whatever your usual browser display page might be.  My blog is my home page so, at the moment, across the top (behind the tool bar) are little paint horses galloping through the ocean.  I’ve asked Carolyn to take a photo of the Cardi babies at her house to submit as a Persona — then I can look at Cardi puppies each time I open my browser.

So very cool!

This too shall pass!

The dogs don’t care if I’m older — not sure I care either.  I do get to try out Medicare benefits.  My hair can’t get any whiter.  My kids already think I am very old.  Every day on this side of the grass is a good day.

I haven’t posted a Wordle for a while — this seemed like a good day.  Click to make this larger.

I cannot exactly explain how this came to live at my house.  I went to OfficeMax to have a bunch of documents printed from a CD.  In my practice, the Feds give us all the discovery on CDs.  There aren’t many clients in the jail that have their laptops and printers, so I end up paying to have everything printed out for them.  Eventually I am reimbursed . . . well, that was a digression, but it proved I wasn’t out looking for trouble.  Anyway, as I came out of the “Impress” section of OfficeMax, there sat a table, and upon the table sat hugely discounted items.  One of the items was the Olympus X915 for $77.00.  The original price was $229.  I have an Olympus Camedia C-60 (quite old) which I use when carrying the Nikon is not practical, but the X915!  Wow!  It is really little, shoots at 12 megapixels, has a 5x optical zoom, takes video (as did the Camedia), and is really tiny (oh, I said that).  It will fit in a pocket or get lost in my purse.  The only one left had not been a floor model — it was just the only one left.   So, it came home with me, I’ve charged up the battery, and today will read the rules so it can travel with me to Washington.  Because it’s so small, I can carry-on the laptop with the camera and will post puppy photos from the show site (well, from the hotel).  Isn’t it cute?

Sara writes (and, of course, sends a photo):

We took Kip to the mountains.  He loves all the smells.  He can’t walk real straight yet.  He drags his back feet on occasion.  I got him some booties to protect his feet.  It was rather hard for him to walk, but he did great and had a wonderful time.  He is the cutest and most wonderful dog!  We all dearly love him.

Kip 5-22-2010

I wish for every dog a home as loving and caring as Kip’s home is.  He is a lucky boy.

Jim is also making great strides — taking longer walks and now able to enjoy the trip to the mountain cabin.

Yep!  It’s going to happen.  I’m going to hop on a Southwest Airlines flight on Friday, June 4th, go to Seattle, be rescued by Paula on her way home from work.  On Saturday, Paula, Eric and I will drive to Yakima so the dog show folks can look over the 8-pak.  We’ll take lots of photos and play with the baybeez.  We’ll spend the night in Yakima and on Sunday, on the way back to their home, Eric and Paula will drop me off at SeaTac to catch a flight back to Albuquerque.  This was a last minute decision.  My son had some Rapid Rewards tickets and offered me one.  He was able to get the flights I’d hoped for — so I get to see my grandpups and their mom, and Paula and Eric, and other show friends!  I am so excited!

Hang on, little baybeez, G-ma is coming to visit (i.e., to spoil the heck out of you)!

I spoke with Jill yesterday.  Our Kip is making the most amazing progress.  He is participating in hydro-therapy once a week (under water treadmill), and being given evey opportunity to locomote as he sees fit.  He is walking on his own for up to fifteen feet.  He has learned to get up the step from the indoor pool area to the living room by placing his front paws on the upper level, plopping his rear on the step, moving one back paw to the upper level, scootching his rear, getting the second rear paw up, and heaving himself into the room.  His surgeon is amazed by his progress.

He also has a sling and chases the birds out of the yard with a little support from one of his people.  Bless you Sarah, Jill, and Jim for loving our boy enough to help him learn to walk again.  This is one determined little Cardi — I am certainly learning life lessons from his efforts.
