  1. Worth a Big Brag

    April 2, 2013 by myeye

A few weeks ago, beautiful Chase/Scout daughter “Ginger” (CH Mockingbird Wyncrest’s I Believe in Magic CA) earned Best of Breed (owner-handled) over 10 other Champions in Louisville.  Her very proud owner Kathy Metcalfe shared the win photo with me yesterday.  Ginger is such a lovely girl — with a side gait to die for.  Congratulations, Kathy and Grandpuppy.

We will return soon to our regularly scheduled puppy program.

  2. Saturday Sheep

    March 17, 2013 by myeye

We’re down to a couple of weekends before the National Specialty Herding Trials.  Chase knows what he knows.  If he keeps his brain with him, he can certainly qualify in Advanced Sheep.  We haven’t done as much duck work, but are still hopeful that he will pick up a couple of duck legs.  Yesterday was cloudy, slight wind, pleasant temperature.  Chase had to be reminded that a “good” herding dog makes a wide outrun on his lift and fetch.  Some days he tries the shortest route.  Tsk! Tsk!

Coming at me on the outrun

    Speed thrills

    The lift: easy does it

    The fetch

See you in the future if not in the pasture:)

In Dory news:  She is a black mound in the middle of the kitchen floor.  Poor Dorito is so big.  She doesn’t want to race around the yard or leap into my lap — though she likes to be in my lap, spilling over onto the couch.  She’s moved into the whelping room where she can build a nest and go out into her private dog yard.  We’ll x-ray next Saturday and get a pretty good puppy count.  I am so very excited!

In show news:  Yesterday in Louisville (Evansville Kennel Club) the pretty Chase/Scout daughter “Ginger” (CH Mockingbird Wyncrest’s I Believe in Magic) was Best of Breed (over 9 other Champions) for a 5-point Grand Champion Major.  She was beautifully handled by her owner Kathy Metcalfe.  Congratulations to them both — and to Scout’s owner/litter breeder Janet Suber.  Ginger’s mom was Select to her daughter.  I’d say it was a very good day!

  3. September Begins With A Bang!

    September 1, 2012 by myeye

While Chase was at herding practice with Ellen, his kids were at herding tests/trials and dog shows.

    TODAY:

Smoochie and DeAnnNelson finished their HT.  Smooch HT is Nola HT’s litter sister.  What good girls!

In the southeast part of the country, Lowri was trialing.  Congratulations to co-owner/trainer/herding handler Susan Shields Long and to co-owner Cheryl Kienast.  Lowri placed in all three classes and Treasure placed in hers.

    Lowri:

Completed her HSAd (Started Ducks A Course)

Earned the second leg of her HSBd (Started Ducks B Course)

Earned the first leg of her HSAs (Started Sheep A Course)

In Lexington, lovely Ginger (Lowri’s littermate) was Select Bitch.

    GO, KIDS, GO!

Cheryl’s Treasure also finished her HSAs today.

  4. All The Pretty Children

    March 17, 2012 by myeye

They aren’t all here — unfortunately a “litter reunion” is pretty difficult to pull off — so (almost CH) Tommy, Alli, Abby, and Big Nick are not in this photo, but all the kids that were there, and their parents made it to the photo shoot.  Janet arranged to have this taken this afternoon.  Isn’t it wonderful?  I also expect that some person will steal the photo and we will see ebay items featuring half The Ocho and their parents.

  5. St. Patty’s Day – Sugar in My Coffee

    March 17, 2012 by myeye

What a morning the Louisville contingent has had!

Lowri was Best of Breed over 14 or 15 other Champions.  Now on to Group for her  — send good thoughts!

Ginger was again Best of Winners for another 3-point major.  Ginger has 13 points with three majors.  She isn’t entered again until the National Specialty.  (Lowri and Ginger are Chase/Scout daughters.)

Chase received another Award of Merit.  I am so delighted with his AOMs because: 1) He’s not been to a dog show since last July, 2) Lowri is in season — in the ring with him, and 3) Cheryl K shows Lowri.  Cheryl is Chase’s Foreign Exchange Dog Host Mother — and he loves her.  So his AOM is for the dog that is the best at trying to gait backward.

So my thanks to Janet Suber, Cheryl Kienast, Kathy Metcalfe, Cheryl Mika (handling the uncooperative Chase), Susan Shields (at home in Tennessee feeding the stock and minding the small herd of red dogs that did not go to the show).  May the road rise to meet our judges for the weekend: Kathy Davis, Emily Fish, Charles Olvis, Stephanie Hedgepath (Herding Group this afternoon), and tomorrow, Jim Reynolds.

    OTHER GREAT NEWS:

Kathy McCombs had her Keina xrayed for puppies this morning.  We are in for a huge influx of Chase babies.  The vet could see 8 distinct puppies, and parts of others.  She’s thinking 10 or 11 puppies.  Keina is so huge (has gained 10 pounds) that she can’t fit through the dog door, can’t climb stairs, can’t even get up on the couch for some cuddling.  Fortunately, Kevin is there to satisfy Mama Dog’s every whim.  The vet does not think Keina will make it to Thursday (her predicted due date) — so watch this spot for puppy announcements.

Happy St. Patty’s day.  Okay — enough celebration.  I’m at the office, Nola is herding with Ellen and it’s time to try to complete the Spring Issue of the Bulletin.
