  1. A Loss

    September 8, 2008 by MyEye

Sandia Dog Obedience Club hosts three obedience/rally trial days a year, four agility trial days, two tracking tests, an agility fun match and a conformation/obedience/rally fun match — every single year.

The club has lots of regular participants who come from the surrounding states.  One of those regulars came up from El Paso over Labor Day weekend for the two-day obedience/rally trial.  She showed her German Shepherd in Rally Advanced and Excellent (working on her RAE).  Sunday evening when the trial day had ended, she was walking her dog on leash near the hotel.  A rabbit leapt out of an arroyo and streaked by her dog.  The dog bolted after the rabbit, pulling the lead from his owner’s hand.  The rabbit crossed a busy street and the dog followed.  He was struck by a car and killed.

It reminds me how fleeting life is, and that even when we are doing everything we are supposed to be doing, we may lose a cherished pet or a friend or a family member.  We’re not really in charge . . .

  2. Fall Skies

This is the most beautiful time of year (especially for taking photos).  The light has a golden quality.  The skies are clear, clear blue, but in the afternoon clouds spill over our mountains.  Sometimes they carry rain, but often they are just a part of the scenery.

  3. Back in the Office

Chase is my office dog — mostly so poor Kip and Inca have a little peace and quiet.  Well . . . maybe mostly because Chase is such good company.  I keep dog treats at work and from time to time we doodle (little short obedience or agility exercises).  However, it’s Monday, and there is a lot of work to do.  I was facing the computer, heard an unfamiliar sound, whirled around and

Why are you on my desk (standing on my Oregon map)?

Apparently Chase knew there were treats on the desk so sprang to a chair and then on to the desk.  That’s when I turned around.  He’s very athletic and jumps silently.  So, it was a surprise to be face to face with him.

Then there is the small play tunnel that I keep in a corner of the office.  We have great fun with it.
