Two years ago I brought a pet squirrel home for the dogs. I named it Rocky (what else?). Kip and Chase loved Rocky and ran through the house swinging him about wildly. They loved the screams when they chomped down on his body. The fluffy tail was a perfect handle for tossing him into the air. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed that Rocky was in bad shape. He no longer made a sound when he was body slammed against the floor. My dogs have always cherished the carcasses of their long deceased friends, but Rocky had moved from tattered to disgusting. So, I broke down and visited Cleanrun. Sure enough, I could get a Rocky replacement for under $10. Since the shipping is the same for one or for two, I ordered two replacement squirrels. Yesterday the box arrived in the big brown truck.
Chase nearly took my arm off trying to get the squirrel while I removed the tags and hanger. We’ve named him Rudy and the dogs are content with the new version of Rocky. Note two squeaker squares have already been pillaged.
My favorite thing about them is if you’re barefoot and walk over Rudy, all the little squeakers go off, and Chase comes barreling through the house to retrieve his toy. I can’t bear to throw Rocky away yet. The dogs will haul his carcass around for a few more months — I might even wash it.
Ah yes, i’ve done that… Mandy turned me onto the Mallards that Kimi-Willow loved… my dogs now LOVE them as well, so we’ve had (and still have, I’m sure) many a carcas in the “toy box” (an old dog bed) with many a replacement.
Chance’s newest thing is fetching small mouth sized squeeky toys… give him a small squeeky toy and he’s in dog heaven…
I love the picture of Chase waiting patiently near his dearest toys for you to take a picture… 🙂 Too cute!!
We might just have to get a “rocky” of our own 😉
I think maybe you should give ol’ Rocky a scrub and hang him up on the wall. Maybe in a frame even. The decor! Just think of it!
My two are master de-stuffers, so they never last long in my house. I may have to get a squirrel and see how long it will last, they are kinda cute.
Both my dogs are rabid de-stuffers. That’s why the squirrels are such good toys for them. They really last for an amazingly long time.
Dennis loves these flat little quilt toys. We call them “squilts”!
Boy oh boy the skwirrels luk lyk so much fun to play wiv. Chase luks so happy to hav a nyoo skwirrel. No yoo shoodent wosh stuffys becorz thay tayst betta the olda & smellyer & krustyer thay bekum
You got me with the first few sentences, Penni. I was all properly horrified till I scrolled down and saw the picture! 🙂
I’ll have to try one of those. Elli is the Fastest Destuffer in the East and the scourge of squeaky toys everywhere, but the extra squeakers may keep her from completely annihilating it in under 60 second.
Bug has one of these and he loves it! He is not a de-squeaker, but an obsessive squeaker so this squirrel gives him loads to squeak. Even Ike likes it – of course when he tries to steal it to hide in his crate he trips over it while trying to carry it! A bit big for a Schnauzer.
Ah yes, I drug around Fi Fi the Poodle for years and years, as I couldn’t possible bring myself to dispose of the disreputable thing. My old Border Collie would fling it, chomp on it, and even lay on her back and spin in between her paws! Thanks for a great trip down memory lane.
Ah,the ultimate dog toy, a pelt stuffed with squeakers. We may need a couple of these for the kids. Since we have both unstuffers (Bridger, Emma, Carson) and desqueakers (Gannett, Bridger), I don’t imagine the squeakers will last very long, but it will be nice to have some “new” pelts. Even washed, I’m not sure what some of our old ones were in their former lives – LOL.
Is there a girl Rocky anywhere….hmmm…could find a way to make your own, ya know.
