X-Ray News

September 15, 2009

Well, I’m bummed out.  We x-rayed Phoebe this morning and she is carrying only two HUGE puppies.  So I’ve scheduled a C-Section on Monday, but they are keeping space open on Friday as well.  If she decides the weekend is good, then we’re off to the emergency vet clinic.  Now THAT would really be bad!

Perhaps they will both be girls, and perhaps they will both be stunning.  However, for now, I’m calling them Cain and Abel!

Darn, well, they will be beautiful pups, with 2 beautiful parents.

I feel for her! When I was just barely pregnant with Emma I had a dream I was pregnant with puppies, but only one or two, and I was worried because there are supposed to be a litter, so they’d be born easier. Of course, fast forward to d day and the c-section… Sometimes I’m so psychic I worry myself.
BUT ANYWAY, I’m sorry there are only two and about the c-section but they will be the cutest puppies EVER!

Bummer, seems to be a lot of that going around. Praying for easy c-section, healthy puppies and yes GIRLS! Good luck.

  4. Holly says:

Wishing an easy c-section and beautiful pups.

  5. Jeri says:

I’m sorry to hear there aren’t more! Hopefully everything goes smoothly, fingers crossed.

Well….dang it! But look at it this way. You can still have your puppy party and all the fanfare. Then the next day you can take the (supposed) 8 week old pups directly into the 6-9 BITCH puppy class. They should be big enough and smart enough considering their parents.

It’s no one’s fault. Mother Nature just decided on quality instead of quantity.

  7. Dawn Small says:

Well crap. We can still repeat part of the mantra, though: girls… girls… girls…

  8. Julie says:

Big girlies in there. Hopefully very healthy too!

  9. Carol says:

Well, shoot! That’s okay, they’ll be fabulously beautiful girls!

I’m wondering if it’s something genetic that causes some bitches to have mondo-puppies… Kota’s mom had a litter of mondo-puppies, but she only ever had the one litter… Phoebe has now had 3 pregnancies where she had big puppies in all three, if I’m not mistaken.
I’m curious (and maybe it’s because I’m reading too many research studies for school right now) if Phoebe’s litter was full of mondo-puppies (was she and her litter large in size when they were whelped)? And what is the likelihood of her offspring having mondo-puppies?
May the two that are in there for certain be beautiful, perfectly marked and most of all HEALTHY!!!! 🙂

Phoebe’s puppies get exponentially bigger. If I remember correctly, GoGo was the biggest in his litter (and the biggest Carolyn had ever had) at almost a pound. And the smallest puppy in round two was almost as big as him! These should be, what, 2 pounds a piece? Phoebe will be happy for the c-section, I think. 😉

  12. Lani says:

Well, phooey, Phoebe! I bet they’ll be beauties, though, and can’t wait to see the pictures and watch them grow!

  13. Kim Gibson says:

    Think girls…Think girls…..Rachel and Leah!

Hope they are healthy and I am sure they will be beautiful. (Ella is sending good vibes for naughty girls too!)

  14. C-Myste says:

I’m holding the right thoughts, at least until we know the sex. How could Chebes be anything but beautiful? Even if there’s only two of them.

I’m working myself back up to positive thoughts. When I saw those two spines stretched the entire length of Phoebe’s inner body, knowing there was still a week to go, I just felt a little sick. I’ll take good care of Phoebe — that’s “Job One”, and with a C-section, I know the babies will be fine. They’ll probably be born walking, but that’s okay. I don’t expect mismarks, but we could have fluff. Regardless, I think they’ll be lovely babies.

  15. Tony says:

Hope the 2 of them are nice & healthy. Phoebe’s such a cute girl

  16. Oh dear.

Thank goodness for modern medicine, so we *can* do things like schedule c-sections! We’d always rather not have to avail ourselves of the miracles our vets and docs can perform, but thank goodness for them when we need them!

Sending good thoughts that all go well, and that the babies are gorgeous, fluff-free, and female.

  17. Keith & Jo says:

We are sending our prayers for a very easy c-section and fast recovery. With puppies as smart and beautiful as the parents.

My goodness. Those puppies are HUGE. I guess it is good there are only 2 of them, otherwise she would explode. I’m glad she is having the c-section. I also wonder why it is that they keep getting bigger. All the first litter pups were huge, and I know she had to “walk” Coal out because he was the last puppy and also a 1 pounder, and did not want to slide out if I remember correctly. Holy crap. Poor girl. Good luck this weekend to you and Phoebe.
