How Not to Begin a Morning

November 30, 2009

Last night I went to bed at about 1:00 AM.  Sometime during the night, I awoke and heard the heater running.  I thought that it must be cold outside for it to be running that late.  It turns out, it wasn’t the furnace.  Sometime after I crashed, the hose to the washing machine burst and cold water sprayed out for the rest of the night.  The half-bath, laundry room, kitchen and about a third of the garage are under water.  I’m glad I have insurance, but I really needed to be at the office this morning.  I really needed to not be paying out a deductible. Every towel I own is spread through the kitchen to stop the river.  I was able to turn off the water at the washing machine, so now am waiting for the clean-up specialists that my insurance company uses.  Sigh!

ps My brother (of butt-crack pants fame) came over and replaced the hoses to the washing machine.  One of the hoses was so firmly attached to the spigot that he used a hack saw to get it off.  My nice insurance adjuster said he would pay for the parts and the work.  It’s going on noon and the clean-up specialists are still here.  Sigh!

Uggh–sorry to hear about your flooding–no fun. Definitely not a good way to start off the week.

Oh no, Penni, that’s terrible. What a mess, and I just hate those unexpected life things that really mess up a Monday morning (or any morning for that matter!).

Oh, Penni — awful, awful, awful. Will your brother (of butt-crack pants fame) replace the old hose(s) with the wire mesh kind that don’t split?

Helluva way to start a day, though.

That is a >>>> poor way to start a day or a week. Hope it is all cleaned up by now. Better luck in the future!

  12. Oh yikes.

Ok, I will shut up and not complain!!!!!!! 🙁

Every so often I think it would be smart to get a batch of those alarms that go off when they get wet, and put one under every source of water. Under every sink, under/beside the washer and dishwasher, etc…..

    I don’t do it, but I think about it……….

As for watch dogs — I no longer have one. I hadn’t realized to what extent it was Buzz watching and Wilbur joining in. The only thing Wilbur cares to sound off about is dogs out in front. Or maybe if someone actually rings the doorbell. But the mailman? Who cares…..

Half the time he doesn’t even notice when we get home, if it’s an unexpected time. I mean, his ears aren’t quite what they used to be, but he can still hear a dish touch the floor from any room in the house…..

After 28 years of corgis, I miss having someone paying attention and giving voice!

  13. Sandy says:

OMG Penni……you need someone to give you a SHOP-VAC for Christmas and suck up the water, instead of sopping up the water. Poor, poor you!

  14. Lani says:

    NOOOOOOO!!!!

Mondays after long weekends are bad enough without an interior flood.

  15. Yikes! We had a slab leak last year that fortunately we caught before it burst through, otherwise we would have been in a similar fix!
