Holmes at 14 weeks (and crew)

December 27, 2009

I’ve completed installation of all my programs on the new laptop — that is a colossal pain.  For now, the computer operates on VISTA so some of the programs won’t run, but some run a little better.  The Windows 7 upgrade is ordered.  I lost all my email addresses from the lobo.net address (which is home/the laptop).  There is probably a way to sync my phone to the new computer — with the phone overriding — so I can get my contacts back.  I have a new cordless mouse and keyboard — they even came with digital speakers — WalMart — I checked out all the office supply places then went to WalMart which was $15 less expensive than anywhere else.  The printer came from WalMart as well.  It’s just a little multi-function model.  I do most of the heavy photo/design lifting at the office with the bigger printer.

Tom spent lots of time on the phone with me today and the wireless router is back up and running.  Some of its settings had inexplicably changed.  They are all back to normal for the time being.  Thank you, Tom — and thanks for sparing him, Carolyn.

So, on to more pleasant things.  Adrienne was here yesterday.  Santa gave her a new RED purse that is her pride.  The dogs crowded the garage door to greet her.

Once she’d had a chance to settle in, and the dogs were settled down, she helped me photograph Holmes.  It’s difficult to believe he is 14 weeks old.  The time has gone so quickly.  He’s in a “rumpy” stage, but I still really like this little guy.

He knows how to sulk (like his aunt Molly).  Look at that rotten little kid!

Glad you’re up and running again, Penni. You’ve seemed so calm through it all. Good job. I would have thrown the old laptop and then tracked it down and stomped on it. Welcome back!

PS Tell Adrienne what a spiffy purse that is — although now I think they’re called “bags.”

Oh and look: she has “The Watching” 🙂

Holmes does have a certain resemblance to Aunt Molly.

And Tom was spared. He still had time to make us crab & shrimp enchiladas. I cracked out the crab for him.

I bought two copies of The Watching to help CorgiAid. I gave one to Adrienne for Christmas. She finished it while she was here yesterday and told me she loved the story. Last year I bought her “The Paper Boy” which was a Caldecott winner many years ago. The “hero” had a red Cardi (looked like Inca). She liked that book as well, but says The Watching is a better story. The other copy will go into our Corgi Club auction next Fall — so CorgiAid will benefit twice.

  3. One note on vista, is you may not want to put too much on it, because the upgrade from it SUCKS, as you have to manually move things. NOT a smooth upgrade 🙁 I’m told the downgrade down to XP is much less painful.

Vista sucks so bad, I really wish I’d bought a Mac, instead of a PC… I need to take my computer to my brother-in-law to have him move everything to Windows 7 that I bought back in Oct!

I am told that the upgrade from XP to 7 is a pain and requires reformatting the hard drive, but that the upgrade from Vista to 7 is easy. I guess that I’ll find out very soon.

Macs really aren’t wonder machines, you know. I have seen people with problems. And helping someone with a said problems is pretty impossible.

I must be the only person on the planet who doesn’t have issues with Vista. Is it a wonder OS? No. Is it any worse for me than XP was? no. I’ve often thought about a Mac, but I don’t see the benefit of it – especially since I can do everything I need on my PC for a MUCH cheaper price…

Vista drove me to the Mac side. Although they are pricier, I’ve been quite happy since I converted. On another topic, Adrienne-what a lucky girl-a copy of The Watching, a smoking new red purse and a grandma with cardis!
