What Do You Get For $1012

August 18, 2010

Well, you could probably get a nice puppy . . . or you could donate to your local ER Vet and pick up one moth-eaten red Cardi girl who picked a fight with her daughter.  My kitchen, laundry room, half-bath look like the set for The Chainsaw Massacre.  Leidy and Holmes were fine — though covered in Inca’s blood (add on another $100 for their baths today).  Chase had not a drop of blood on him nor a hair out of place.  I know he cheered them on:  “Chick Fight!  Chick Fight! Never stop a Chick Fight!”

No fractures, sutures, staples, but shaved spots all over — and Inca is sore.  She’s not sore enough to miss a meal, but she’s sore.  Poor little girl!

Leidy will visit Dr. Larry tomorrow for a progesterone test (day 5).  On Friday morning very early, Holmes will be traveling to Greeley — which is lucky because he has stopped eating and barks all day — “she’s m-i-i-i-n-e”.  Monday we will do another  Leidy progesterone test.  Thursday Chase will have his pre-flight check up because on the 28th (assuming Leidy is bred) he is flying to Atlanta where Cheryl Kienast and Susan Shields will whisk him off to herding camp.

A note to place in the “nobody would do that” category.  The ER vet called me at 2:00 AM to tell me they’d not yet had a chance to clean up all of Inca’s wounds.  Did I need to know that at 2:00?  So, I couldn’t go back to sleep.  I am cranky!

  1. Sharrie Brockhaus says:

Wow! That is terrible. Sorry to read about that kind of a situation.
Sounds like the dogs are running your life right now. Hope things get real better — real fast!

  2. Léo says:

So sorry. I had a “chick fight” in my pack once. I know how unpredictable and very distressing it can be.
Get your rest. I hope Inca feels better soon too.

  3. Jean says:

WOW Them Chick fight are never fun. Always seems they are to the death too. I have had females become arch enemies and never were able to ever be together again. Hope both are fine and you

  4. Janet says:

Ouch! To the girls and Penni’s pocketbook!

I see Chase’s travel dates correspond with the Atlanta shows. Do you know if Susan and Cheryl are going to those? Would love to get to visit with the Chase-man there!

  5. Julie says:

Scary and no fun. I hope you get some sleep, the girls get along again, and Inca heals quickly.

  6. Jeri says:

I’m so glad that Inca is ok, even if your pocketbook is lighter….stupid girls! Can’t wait to see uncle Chase around town. 🙂

  7. Jean from NM says:

Oh, no, Penni. So sorry to hear that. I’m glad all survived and hope things are calmer soon. Let me know if I can help.

  8. Lani says:

Oh dear! Sorry to hear about the fight, the vet bills, and the hassle! Naughty girls.

  9. Shep says:

Owch! I’m glad everyone is all right, but ow, what a thing to come home to. I will say chick fights are the worst fights, too. The boys seem to slug each other a few times and then decide who wins and go out for a beer. The girls turn into sharks, yipes!

    Hope everything calms down soon…

  10. Taryn says:

Wow! That must have been very scary! I’ve never been around that level of dog fighting, and hopefully never will be! My guys get snarky with each other sometimes but it seems to be all hot air and bluffing. I still seem to be able to keep my vet well-funded, even w/o fights!

I hope Inca recovers quickly, and everything settles down.

  11. Yikes! How scary! I’ve had too many fights, over the years (always between bitches!).

I’m sure some were my fault, as I didn’t tamp down bullying behavior with my earliest dogs…….

Glad everyone seems to be ok, and that Leidy isn’t a member of your regular pack. At least you don’t have to worry about rehoming one of “your” girls if they decide they’ll never get along again…..

As for them calling you for no good reason at 2:00…… Sheesh. Makes you want to call them at home, this afternoon, to tell them that she seems ok, but sore, doesn’t it???

  12. Kathy M. says:

Oh…Inca…you know you’re my favorite red girl – good wishes for a quick mend and calmer times on the home front!

  13. Goodness me!!! I fort us feemayl puppys wer supowsed to be imijes ov sweetness & pyoority & leev the ruff stuff to the mayls. Orltho I do byt my teddy & shayk him abowt pretty ruffly sumtyms
