  1. Not Another One

    October 23, 2010 by myeye

Walker is gone.  Leidy laid on him this evening and apparently suffocated him.  There was no puppy scream, nothing so that I could run in and rescue him.  I had been in holding and cuddling the babies.  I left them to put away dishes.  I went back in to check them before I went to bed and Leidy was frantically licking Walker, but he was gone.

I feel so helpless with this litter.  The babies are being picked off one at a time no matter how careful I am.  I am glad this day is over.

  2. Losing the Baby

    October 23, 2010 by myeye

Thunder died a little while ago.  Despite keeping him warm and tube feeding him every two hours, he was getting weaker and weaker.  I’m so sad.  To lose three puppies in one litter is very difficult when you’re trying to do everything right.  I think if they had been born in a dog house in the back yard, they would probably all be fine.

So, we are saying goodbye to a tiny life that was apparently meant to be very short.

  3. Good Morning, Babies – Oct. 23rd

Adrienne is visiting so we tried to take puppy photos.  We were specifically asked for side shots to show angles and layback, etc.  THAT did not happen.  These are wriggly little guys and we considered ourselves lucky to get a face shot and collar shot of each.  The cool numbered puppy collars I bought on ebay are too big for them so we laid out the numbers near each puppy.

Puppy party is planned for Saturday, December 11th at 2:00.  Let me know if you will be here.  I have sleeping room for 10 people and my Element knows the way to the airport!

Little Thunder is not doing very well.  He is on an around-the-clock tube feeding schedule.  I’m hoping the little guy can pull it together.  The others are sassy and growing.

#1 was Reba.  She is the devil in disguise and already runs the whelping box though she is the smallest (other than Thunder)

Smooch #2 – This is a pretty brindle girl — she’s a hulk and since she spends much time at the milk bar, I don’t see her as petite (ever)

#3 Thunder – This is our littlest boy, born during a terrible hail storm that included rolling thunder.  We’re hoping that with supplementation, we can save him.

#4 – Udi – another red boy with pretty markings.  He’s the largest of the three reds.

Udi markings 10-23-2010Udi has an irregular collar that is wider on the judge’s side (Yay!)

#5 – Victor – a big brindle boy with flashy markings.  This one looks like his father’s son.

#6 – Walker – I love Walker’s face markings.  The color comes forward of the back of the mouth.  He’s also the darkest of the brindles.

  4. Puppy Poll and New Photos

    October 23, 2010 by myeye

Four people who guessed 8 puppies left tie -breaker comments:  Susan Shields with 5 girls/3 boys, Cheryl Kienast also with 5 girls/3 boys, Kathy Miller with 4 boys/4 girls, and Carolyn Cannon with 5 boys and 3 girls.  Carolyn was the closest (though I would certainly have preferred 5 girls/3 boys), so Chase and Leidy will send her a surprise (no, NOT a puppy).

Adrienne spent the night here last night.  As soon as we’ve had some breakfast and the sun is up to give us natural light, we will start on the puppy photo project.  We’ll post photos later today.
