Give Me An H

October 9, 2010

That H would be one-half of an HT.  Chase earned the first leg of his HT today.  He did it with barely contained enthusiasm — the sparkling eyes, wagging tail and perpetual smile.  Susan had to ask for several “stops” to control him — he still put too much pressure on the sheep a couple of times and was rewarded by having to chase one down and bring it back.  He lives for those moments.  The judge was very complimentary about both Chase and Kearney’s runs.  The HT was last today and the judge addressed the assembled herding folks:  “Did you all see these two Cardigans?  Well, THIS is your competition.”

The judge signed Chase’s autograph book with the caveat that she wanted to make comments.  So she did.  When Cheryl and Susan return to Knoxville, Cheryl will upload video from today, stills from tomorrow, and the comments from the autograph book.  On the test score sheet, under comments, the judge wrote “extremely nice”.  She waxed effusive in the autograph book and I’ll let you read those comments tomorrow.

I’m proud of my boy, but mostly I am happy that he is enjoying this adventure so much.  Kudos to Susan who is able to (somewhat) control him.  Thanks to Elaine Collins who trekked over to Cumming, Georgia to meet Chase in person and to cheer him on, and to Cheryl whose house guest Chase is and who makes her lap available on demand.
