Well, those Houston Texas folks don’t really want us dog people in their hotels. The herding site is in Hempstead TX. The nearest hotel that will accept dogs is in Brenham — about 18 miles from the herding site. There used to be a Super 8 three miles from the herding venue, and it accepted dogs. It was sold this winter and the new manager told me “No Dogs, no exceptions.” So, we will be paying way too much to stay in a Rodeway Inn. The Herding Committee, and the overall event committee, made no arrangements other than to stay at the host hotel which is a 90 minute drive from the herding location. Let’s see . . . herding starts at 8:00 AM and you need to be there by 7:30, so you would have to leave the hotel by 5:00 AM to be on time for the trial. That’s cruel and unusual — don’t you think?

Definitely cruel.
Is there an RV park anywhere near? I’ve heard some people go to the National and rent an RV from the area so they don’t have a big fuel/hotel bill. Could be a solution in this case too.
I’m not a morning person, so for me anything that involves me getting out of bed before 8am (at the earliest) is a bit cruel. Unfortunately almost everything involves getting up before that time…
Grrrr to the hotel for changing their dog policy. I try to stay in pets allowed hotels even when I’m traveling on business (with no dogs) to give them my continued loyalty!
