Japan

March 14, 2011

I regularly read Deus Ex Malcontent.  This morning Chez (who is known to be more than slightly acerbic) posted this video of the tsunami sweeping into a Japanese town.  I think I forgot to breath while I watched it.  I cannot even fathom the fear, horror, the sheer terror of the people in the path of the water.  The force of the preceding quake moved New Mexico an inch, moved California as much as 8 inches — but what the quake and then the tsunami did to the island of Japan is unspeakable and unimaginable.

Adding a link to before and after satellite photos.  Slide the center bar to the left and you will overlay the former city with the current landscape.  This is so tragic!

I don’t have the courage to watch the video link. My prayers are with everyone affected.

It’s hard to imagine what water can do until you see a video like this….First just a small bit of water and debris, then getting deeper and dislodging the parked cars, and finally by the end, large buildings are floating away. The devastation is just so widespread. My heart goes out to the Japanese people.

WOW. It is astonishing to see the tide starting to come in and then within a matter of minutes, the houses are starting to move. It is truly awe-inspiring. It really brings home the devastation they are facing. They are in my prayers. Thanks for sharing this link, Penni!

The video made all of the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I can’t fathom how the people of Japan are going to get through this and past it.
