  1. Hurray! We Made It To Friday.

    September 30, 2011 by myeye

It is stunningly beautiful outside.  The Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (with 650 hot air balloons participating) begins tomorrow morning with a 7:00 AM mass ascension.  Today seems to be a “warm-up” for the pilots.  As I drove north into Albuquerque, balloons filled the skies, and along I-25 are signs “NO SPECTATOR PARKING”.  All you want to do is look up.  It would be a lot safer if people were permitted to pull over and look.  I pass a Hampton Inn as I wind into the area in which my office is located.  The guests were all out in the parking lot with cameras — oohing and aahing.  I love this event.  Since my daughter-in-law’s ad agency does the print media for the Fiesta, we have available a “God Pass” which gets us right on to the Balloon Fiesta Park field.  I am so grateful for the development of digital cameras — my film and film developing bill was always in the hundreds of dollars after the ten days of balloons.  Here is the front of this years’ Fiesta program.

In other news, today the CWCCA Bulletin will go to the mail house.  If the bindery is done with it early enough in the day, it will be mailed today.  I will get my advance copy sometime this afternoon.  Then tonight is the first airing of the two-hour Dateline-NBC show “The Secret”.  It is the story of a case on which I’ve spent the last 18 months.  I hope it is a fair portrayal of everything that happened.  Billy is almost finished installing my new metal roof.  Two of the three skylights have been installed and the third skylight and surrounding roofing should be done today — whoo hoo!  Then Billy is going to build me a long, wide front porch that will hold a bench and a big blue pot.  Next year I’ll plant a tropical hibiscus in the pot — wheel it into the house for the winter and then back out the following summer.

Tomorrow I am invited to the graduation of a young woman that I represented five years ago in a very horrible case.  She spent some time in prison, was released, completed her parole, completed her high school work and has been accepted to a Vet Tech program.  I am so stinkin’ proud of her.  There truly are rewards for what I do for my real day job (as opposed to the Bulletin which is my non-paying day job).

Have a great weekend.  I will be eagerly waiting for results from Richland and Murfreesboro — oh yeah, and from Grand Junction.

  2. This Is Be Good To Myself Day

    September 28, 2011 by myeye

I just signed off on the proofs for the Fall Bulletin — it’s going to press today.  In celebration thereof, I took Inca and Nola to Doggy Daycare where Inca will be bathed and groomed and Nola will have her nails Dremeled.  Yes, I can do all of the above, BUT — remember — I am being good to myself today.  Inca is shedding and she doesn’t just leave a little hair here and there.  SHE SHEDS big chunks of hair and she looks moth-eaten.  A good bath and a professional grooming will do wonders for her, for me, and for my generally lax housekeeping.  Nola doesn’t like to have her nails done so this way I don’t have to arm wrestle her.  I take them to the boarding kennel/grooming salon that is owned by my tracking friend that has top winning American Cocker Spaniels.  I know she takes good care of the dogs.

This morning was the first time she’s met Nola.  Her comment has been the same for each Chase child I’ve brought in — “Look at the bone, look at the top line.  You’re going to finish her/him fast aren’t you.”  I doubt I will ever move her away from her Cockers, but she is becoming a serious fan of my dogs-with-no-legs.

I’m wondering, if I work really hard for a few hours, can I fit in a hair cut and a pedicure because this is Be Good To Myself Day?

  4. Skylights and Scampers

    September 24, 2011 by myeye

It is a beautiful almost Fall day here.  Let me start by showing you the tubular skylight that my contractor installed in the interior bath.  Let there be light!  What an improvement!

Now for puppy antics in the backyard.

  5. Holmes at camp wendy

    September 23, 2011 by myeye

Holmes’ handler, Wendy Oelrich, has had him at her place for a few weeks, taking him with her (unentered) to shows to get him accustomed to life on the road.  Our Holmes is a homebody so this is a bit stressful for him.  Wendy bathed him today and sent these photos.

I could just kiss those freckles on his nose

Doesn’t he look like a big boy?
