When my friend Mike suffered a stroke and then a heart attack, it was our mutual friend Tom that found Mike unconscious on the floor of his home. Yesterday Tom died. My old friends are being picked off one by one. That must be the meaning of “Winter of Our Discontent”. There is so much left to do, but the group is getting smaller and smaller.

I am past sixty-five and still practicing law. I have two terrific sons, they have lovely wives, and I have one truly special granddaughter. At home are three Cardigan Welsh Corgis that amuse and challenge me. We participate in lots of dog-related activities. I love my camera, writing, and roaming. Oh Penni. I’m so sorry for your loss. As we get older, unfortuantely so do those near and dear to us. I have no fancy words of condolence or solace for you. Chin up and know that you have folks who care for you and feel your pain.

I am so very sorry. I spent my 30’s going to the funerals of my male friends, so I know how desolate it feels to be one of the last ones standing. Peace be with you, my friend.

Oh Penni, I am so, so sorry to hear about your friend Tom. It is so difficult to lose a close friend. I lost 2 last year and it is truly painful. Try to remember the fun times; it may help you get thru things now. I’ll keep you Tom & Mike in my prayers.
