It’s seven hours each way from my house to Colorado Springs. The trip up seemed to take forever, but I could have returned under my own power. On Saturday, in Asheville NC, Scout/Chase daughter Ginger (owned and handled by Kathy Metcalfe) finished her Championship. She is now CH Mockingbird-Wyncrest’s I Believe in Magic. Ginger’s Championship completed the requirements for both Scout’s and Chase’s Register of Merit Bronze award. The ROM is the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America’s award for top producing dogs. I am so proud of Chase who will receive his award at 4-1/2 years old. He has ten progeny (8 Champions and two dogs with Herding Titles) that amassed more than 15 points for their various titles.
On Saturday in Colorado Springs, Nola was Winners Bitch for another point toward her Championship and Best of Opposite Sex. Nola’s co-breeder Carolyn Cannon was at the show and took Nola back in for the Best of Breed competition. Chase received Select Dog, but because there was no male entry, he received no Grand Champion points. Jessica Viera showed Nola through the Winners class and showed the Chaseman. I’m very prejudiced, but I think Chase was striking. (It was 94 degrees on Saturday — wilting weather.) Nola was . . . well, Nola. She can hardly contain the joy of being alive.
On Sunday (20 degrees cooler), Nola was again Winners Bitch for another point, again Carolyn took her into the ring for the Best of Breed Competition, and again Nola was Best of Opposite Sex. This time, though, it was her Daddy Chase that was Best of Breed. That completed his American Grand Championship.
Chase, upon confirmation by the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America and of the American Kennel Club, will be:
American Grand Champion/Canadian Champion C-Myste Baledwr Pursuit of Happiness ROMb CD RN HXAs VCX TT It’s pretty obvious why we just call him “Chase”. We did have a photo taken to commemorate the completion of his Grand Champion Title. You all will be the first to see it.
YIPPEE!!!

Huge congrats to Team Chase! What a string of titles. If I am not mistaken, that he is the first GCH HX Cardigan. I will inquire about that.
That is the best news EVER! Way to go Chase, Penni, and everyone else along the way who helped make Chase “American Grand Champion/Canadian Champion C-Myste Baledwr Pursuit of Happiness ROMb CD RN HXAs VCX TT” Yea!
Wonderful weekend for you! A person could get writer’s cramp just writing his name!…what “letters” is he working on next?
Chase will continue herding (because he loves it) and perhaps someday he will be a herding champion (HC) which would make him a dual champion (DC). While that plays out, he goes back to Agility class on June 21st, and we are tracking again. So the next letters will probably be NAP and NJP, TD later in the winter and CDX next Spring (I hope). With Chase, it is all about the journey. He loves to work with me and I with him. The most important thing about him is that he LOVES — work, people, hanging out — the dog just LOVES!
