  1. Joiner Couldn’t Stay

    Joiner couldn’t stay in this world. He had suffered some brain damage during the extended effort to bring him to life after the C-section. This morning I said good bye to the little man. I am so sad that he didn’t have the chance to grow up, to have his very own family, to bring smiles. Seven beautiful puppies are wonderful, but I will always think of what Mr. 8 would have added to my life. Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.

  2. Raising Dory’s Puppies

    The puppies will be six days old this afternoon.  With the exception of Joiner, they are big, strong, contented baybeez. I hope to get individual photos this afternoon.  Here is the rundown of weights:

    #1 – Cameron (f) – Birth weight 11.7 oz – this AM – 1 lb. 3 oz.

    #2 – Dally (f) – Birth weight 11.07 oz. – this AM – 1 lb. 1 oz.

    #3 – Emir (m) – Birth weight 11.15 oz. – this AM – 1 lb. 1.9 oz.

    #4 – Faust (m) – Birth weight 12.13 oz. – this AM – 1 lb. 3.75 oz.

    #5 – Gandolf (m) – Birth weight 13.05 oz. – this AM – 1 lb. 2.35 oz.

    #6 – Hillary (f) – Birth weight 10.15 oz. – this AM – 14.5 oz.

    #7 – Intrigue (f) – Birth weight 12.05 oz. – this AM 1 lb. 1.8 oz.

    #8 – Joiner (m) – Birth weight 10.3 oz. – this AM 10.5 oz.  We don’t expect this puppy to make it though we have been supplementing him and keeping him extra warm.  He is too weak to nurse though Dory cleans him several times a day.  He has put up such a good fight, and perhaps there will be a miracle.  (I did not expect him to be alive this morning.)  He has Chase’s white foreleg/brindle foreleg markings.

    Seven of the eight are strong and can be vocal (e.g., when I weigh them), but overall they are so well cared for by Dory that the whelping room is quite quiet — just a contented hum.  The Dorito is a superb mother — with clean, well-fed babies.  Dory is eating us out of house and home, but she may have whatever she wants since all is turned into milk.

    The Puppycam is running and if you’d like to peek in on the babies from time to time, use the “Contact Penni” link above and I will send you the username and password.  You must have Java on your computer.  PLEASE DO NOT MINIMIZE THE PUPPY CAM, YOU MUST LOG OUT AND THEN BACK IN LATER.  The Puppycam uses a tremendous amount of band width and I don’t want Comcast to pull our plug.
