  1. Triple Storm

    December 4, 2011 by myeye

We had snow Friday evening and night.  As one would expect, the sun came out yesterday and melted the snow.  Last night it was very cold so all the melted snow froze and more snow fell on it.  There is a third storm predicted for tonight or tomorrow.  Folks in the midwest and east are used to this, but the poor New Mexico drivers have no clue how to drive in this stuff.  Heck!  In the summer if it clouds up and “could be” rain, they all run into each other.

This is my front yard this morning when I ventured out to fetch the paper.  (I should teach a dog to do that for me.)  Snow and fog — can’t see my mountains.  So, I’ll grind up a batch of dog food — a thawed turkey is waiting for the machete.  Then I’ll vacuum up some of the dried mud from yesterday.

  2. And the Wind Blew

    December 2, 2011 by myeye

Mid-morning the wind began blowing.  We had gusts up to 75 mph.  It blew into the night.  I arrived home from the office well after dark, hung on to the car door so it didn’t end up somewhere in the yard, leaned against the storm door so it didn’t become a flying saucer.  Inside the house, there were actually little ridges of dust near door and windows.  This morning when it became light (can’t see the sun because of a heavy cloud cover), this is what I found on the back patio.  The umbrella stand and table are wrought iron and a round of concrete.  It’s heavy enough that I need help to move it for sweeping.

Today we have been directed to expect rain/sleet/snow.  December = Winter — at least this year.

  3. Baddog Genes – Using Puppy Teeth

    October 28, 2011 by myeye

Little Tater is cute and active.  He is always carrying something around with him.  Despite a minefield of toys in their area of the house, Tater started what could have been his (very short) life’s work yesterday.  Darned puppy!

He didn’t chew clear through it.  I think I interrupted him.  So now, the stools are stacked on the coffee bar and this place looks like a closed restaurant constructed in the middle of a minefield of toys.

  4. Sunset and a Red Puppy

    October 10, 2011 by myeye

Yesterday John (my neighbor) and my high school football player worker made inroads into the chores at the house.  They replaced the outside back spigot.  It turns out it had been leaking underground for a long time.  So now there is no leak and I can spray things with the hose.  We winterized the swamp cooler (which means we will have some 90 degree days soon), and put a louvred bi-fold door on the hot water closet.  Jared cleaned up goatheads — nasty little flat growing plants with stickers that are hard on people and dog feet.  Tater and Inca helped them so it probably took a little longer than it should have.  Little Tater has opinions about everything.

    He will listen to reason

Then we all watched the sunset.  It was a very good day for the house chores and for the herding members of the family.

  5. Ending the Work Week

    October 7, 2011 by myeye

The Balloon Fiesta was rained out again today.  Boo!  I always feel badly for people who traveled to watch the balloons go up, but are disappointed by the weather.

This is a weekend for keeping track.  Holmes and Nola are at dog shows — 4 days in southern New Mexico.  Chase and Lowri are at a herding trial in Cumming Georgia.  Chase is making his first attempts at Intermediate Sheep and Lowri is planning to earn her PT.  Chase/Magic daughter Darby will be trialing in Arizona or Southern California to earn her HT.

Treasure es muy embarasada — she is so pregnant.  She isn’t due until October 27th, but is finding it difficult to lie down comfortably.  I’m looking forward to this group of little baddogs taking over Cheryl’s house.  Chase will be so happy.  As you may recall, he loves to raise puppies.

I’m going to take advantage of the cool weather to clean the house and the yard.  Monday I will put together the catalog for Sandia Dog Obedience Club’s VST Test a week from Sunday.  We have five entries — here’s hoping we return to our normal stunning fall weather in time for the test.

I am walking out of the office at 3:00 to start my weekend.  I think I deserve it.
