  1. Seven Months Old

    May 18, 2014 by myeye

Today the Lowri/Dickens kids are 7 months old.  Yesterday Gimme finished her Championship with a Best Puppy/Puppy Group III and a Best of Breed over two other Champions.  Litter brother Kevin earned his first major.  What a ride we’ve taken with this litter!  Their mom, Lowri, was Select yesterday behind the fabulous Coco Posh.

Yesterday Storybook (you may remember her as “Kimber” from the Nola/Heath litter) earned her second major.  She is well on her way to her Championship.

I took Salsa to Kevin and Tricia’s home so she could have a sleep-over with Copper.  Kevin ran out and brought back a kiddie wading pool so the girls could enjoy the beginning of summer weather.  The two of them are very cute together.

Chase, Old Inca and I are home alone.  Toenails, then combing Inca out since she is trying to shed every hair on her very hairy body.  I am going to re-set our little agility field which was blown around by the 60 mph gusts we suffered during the week.  The weave poles have been re-worked to correct the interval between poles, I scored a tire jump.  Chase will be so happy!

  2. The Cardigan National Specialty

    April 30, 2014 by myeye

There is so much to report — not counting the awful weather at the end of the show.  The capsule:

Chase – did not qualify in herding nor in agility (BADDOG!).  He won the herding-titled conformation class and was second in the Stud Dog Class with Lowri and Copper

Copper – earned her HT — looking every bit like a herding dog — and made the final cut in the 12-15 month bitch class

Flutter – earned 3rd place in a near sweep of the 6-9 puppy girl class (Gimme was 1st, Reserve Winners Bitch, and Best Puppy, as well as Best in Sweepstakes, Flutter was 3rd, and Fable was 4th)

Salsa made the cut in 6-9 puppy sweeps

Storybook (fka “Kimber) – earned her HT and was 4th in the 9-12 month puppy bitch class

Here are a few photos — it will take me a while to look at all the photos so I can share the best

  3. Ramping Up For Competition

    March 31, 2014 by myeye

    Trials coming:

April 4-6 is an Agility Trial — not just any trial — it’s a half hour from my house.  Few activities are that close so it’s pretty exciting.  Chase is fit and happy.  I hope he runs like the wind AND clean.  Perhaps we will finish his Excellent Jumpers Title, perhaps he will get a Excellent Standard leg — or even two or three.

On the following Wednesday, he will take his little overnight bag and go to California with Ellen for the Corgis-only Herding Trial.  We had good practices both yesterday and Saturday.  Chase knows what he needs to know.  Now, will he use that knowledge for good — or for evil?

The following Wednesday Chase will again leave with Ellen, heading to Missouri for the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America National Specialty Show.  The Herding Trials are on the 19th and 20th.  Copper, Flutter and Salsa will leave for Missouri on Thursday.  All four dogs are entered in conformation events.  Chase is entered on sheep and duck herding as well as in Agility.  Copper is our surprise entry in the Herding Test.  Two weeks ago, I asked Ellen if she would look at Copper as a potential entry.  I took her up to Robert’s place in Edgewood on Sunday and she was splendid.  She showed great instinct, but more than that, she took direction.  Her second and third practices were this past weekend.  This little red girl is a great combination of her dad (Chase) and her mom (Dory).  Dory comes from a line of serious herding dogs.  Little Copper plans to be a serious herding dog!

  4. The Hurrier I Go, The Behinder I Get

    September 24, 2013 by myeye

    I owe a long report.

Holmes/Rhiannon Puppies are growing like crazy.  Kathy McCombs regularly posts their photos on Facebook.  Very very cute!  I will be going to the puppy evaluation party in Waco on November 9th.  The plan is to bring home a girl puppy to be all mine.  We will call her “Salsa”.

Newman went to his new home on Saturday morning.  He is in Albuquerque and will be called “Harry” (or is that “Hairy”).  He has his very own 7 year old little girl.  He loves Jordan already.  He seems to think the adults are fine as well.  I miss Newmie (a lot).  Lily is the last puppy at the house and she also misses her brother — except when she is out of the puppy pen and playing with Chase and Riley.  The little stinker is fast and fearless.  She is again wearing a fashionable bonnet.  Newmie’s ears came up and stayed with one taping, but Lily’s ears are more stubborn.  She will be flying to Salt Lake City on October 4th.  Mark Roundtree will take her home to Wyoming for a week or so and then Jenn Roundtree will fetch her and take her to Elko Nevada.  I swear this litter has more frequent flyer miles . . .

Riley is a baddog through and through.  She tore open a bag of charcoal and strewed it across the patio.  She shoves the puppy’s x-pen into itself until she can wiggle a toy, antler, piece of puppy poop to the outside.  Baddog!  She is, however, a great playmate for both Chase and baby Lily.  She’s one of those cheerful dogs that believes there is joy to be found in every minute of the day.  She and Banjo are going to make wonderful puppies — looks like there will be a percentage of fluffs in their litter:-)

Chase had a great agility weekend.  He didn’t qualify on every run — earned one Open Standard leg — a clean run, 26 seconds under Standard Course Time for a blue ribbon, and earned one Open Jumpers leg with a clean run, 20 seconds under Standard Course Time for another blue ribbon.  While he was having a blast, his son Stout and Merinda Tiffany were running agility in Cincinnati.  Stout earned his Novice Jumpers title.  That title qualified him as a Register of Merit progeny for Chase — the 15th progeny — and completed the requirements for Chase’s Register of Merit Silver designation.  So many of Chase’s kids have gone to great homes where they’ve earned herding, obedience, agility and conformation titles which makes earning the Register of Merit award relatively easy.

Elfie sent me an email letting me know that Naughty Sweet Nola saved the day for their obedience trial.  When they arrived at the trial site, the grounds were covered with ducks.  Elfie sent Nola who herded them back down to the lake.  By 6:00 AM the grounds crew was able to set the rings.  The ducks did not return.

We are gearing up for our local shows the middle of October.  Little Copper will be 6 months old tomorrow so she is entered all four show days in conformation and three days in obedience (Novice B).  It will be fun to compare our redhead with other dogs.

I hope to add some agility video to this post — the link to the video is fighting with me.  As soon as it’s figured out, you’ll be able to watch the Chaseman running his fool head off.

I am finishing off the Bulletin and plan to have it to proofreading tomorrow night.  What a relief that will be!  Now I need to do some income-producing work for a change.

  5. Copper at the Fun Match

    August 4, 2013 by myeye

Today was the first time that Copper and Kevin had the chance to strut their stuff.  At 4-1/2 months old, we didn’t expect the baby to win the whole shebang (and we were correct), but she did very well.  By the end of her events (four different times in the rings — two for conformation, one for Novice A Obedience and one for Rally Novice), she was approaching “Old Pro” mode.  She will be so much fun to show as she grows into herself.  Here are a few photos that I took.  I love this puppy’s reach, her pretty front, and more than anything else, her happy attitude.  The grass needed mowing so we don’t see much of her legs and feet — unfortunately.  Kevin is learning how to show a table dog (he’s a German Shepherd person who has seen the light).  His wife Tricia did an excellent job of bathing and grooming.  There was no touch-up to do when I arrived with my grooming bag.  We’ll try another match on August 17th and then one on the 25th.  I don’t know what’s up for September — though Chase and I will be trying to finish his Novice Jumpers Title.
